2000 Honda Civic Si sells for $50,000 at auction
The price my sound ludicrous, but it’s a pristine, unmolested example of a car appreciated by many that have gained newfound spending power
The latest Japanese vehicle to sell for an astronomical amount is this 2000 Honda Civic Si, which commanded a staggering $50,000 sale price on a Bring a Trailer auction.
The Electron Blue Civic has 5,600 original miles, and is in perfect original shape. No unsightly aftermarket modifications have been made, which is probably why it brought such a high price. Usually these vehicles have a host of awful aftermarket parts, but this one still retains its 15-inch wheels, painted lip spoiler, original engine, and even the original exhaust.
Because it’s an Si model, it features Honda’s 1.6-litre four-cylinder VTEC, which revs to 8,000 RPM and produces 160 horsepower and 111 lb.-ft. of torque. That may not sound like much compared to today’s vehicles, but the engine was more than capable of motivating the light vehicle around.
Bring a Trailer is responsible for the values of these vehicles hitting astronomical heights, and it is well known that in any auction scenario the prices can become inflated more than their actual value. While this vehicle commanded an outrageous price at auction, that doesn’t mean that a similar one would sell for that price on the open market.
It is likely that we’ll see more young-timer vehicles such as this Civic rise in value as the people who wanted them as kids can now afford them.
