Abrams blasts Trump over actions, rhetoric regarding minority communities

Stacey Abrams criticized the Trump administration’s handling of race relations Sunday, saying the president, his campaign and a member of his cabinet were not “taking responsibility” for words and actions that she feels have alienated minority communities.

In an interview on ABC’s “This Week,” Abrams was asked to respond to Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson, who said earlier on the show that the nation needs to “grow up” when it comes to the debate over the renaming of objects and institutions that offend some groups.

“I think that is a fairly infantile response, actually, to say that words don’t have meanings, that dates don’t have meanings, that dates don’t have power,” Abrams said, alluding to the Trump campaign’s recent decision to move an Oklahoma rally one day to avoid conflicting with the Juneteenth anniversary of the freeing of America’s slaves.
