The new Trail trim will serve as the Toyota 4Runner’s base model
Toyota unveiled its new Trail package for 4Runner in July as a special edition addition to the SR5 trim, but we’re now learning it will instead be its own trim level.
The Toyota 4Runner Trail trim will be the new base model trim and start at $45,960. The Trail is offered in two body colours, Cement Grey and an Army Green unique to this trim level.
In addition, you get some off-road goodies such as a Yakima roof basket, 17-inch dark grey TRD off-road wheels, black badging overlays, and a colour-keyed Toyota cooler. Inside the cabin is a 4.2-inch full-colour multi-information display, eight-way power adjustable front row seats, a rear sliding cargo tray, and black fabric seat cladding highlighted with tan stitching.
The Trail trim features Toyota’s venerable 4.0-litre V6, which produces 270 horsepower. The engine is connected to a five-speed automatic transmission and sends power to either two or four wheels. With a Class IV hitch, the 4Runner is rated to tow 5,000 lbs.
Toyota hopes the entry level Trail trim will offer thrill-seekers an affordable off-roading package.
“When it’s time to get away from it all – whether camping in the summer, skiing in the winter, or exploring Canada all year round – the 2021 Toyota 4Runner is the perfect vehicle that’s ready for anything,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada.
Pricing for the higher trim levels for 2021 were also revealed: the SR5 starts at $48,670; the TRD Off Road at $52,140; Limited at $55,570; TRD Venture at $56,790; Nightshade at $58,140; and the top-of-the-line TRD Pro at $62,190.
